The most well-known Hindu holiday dedicated to honoring the nine incarnations of Goddess Durga, commonly referred to as Devi or Shakti, is Navratri. This event is observed twice a year: once in the spring as Chaitra Navratri and once in the fall as Sharad Navratri. In the month of Ashwin, which often occurs in September or October, Sharad Navratri is observed.
With great devotion, people celebrate Navratri, and the first day of Chaitra Navratri also marks the start of the Hindu New Year. It is devoted to Goddess Durga, also known as Nava Durga, who is revered in nine different heavenly guises. During these days, people worship the goddess all throughout the world. Little girls' feet are touched and treated like gods. Hindus regard Navratri as a very sacred occasion.
During Navratri, nine incarnations of the Mother Goddess are worshipped. Sharad Navratri, which is observed in October, is regarded as the most significant and well-known Navratri of all. Dussehra, also known as Vijay Dashami, is observed on the tenth day of Sharad Navratri and marks the triumph of good over evil. Nine incarnations of the goddess Shakti are worshipped on nine different days during the Navratras. During the nine days of Navratri, people worship Mother Shailputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kalratri, Mahagauri, and Siddhidatri.
"Ghatasthapana," a ritual in which a Kalash is filled with water and deposited at the place of worship, is carried out on the first day of Navratri. An 'Akhand' lamp is lit by those witnessing the fast, and it burns nonstop for nine days. The Goddess receives offerings and is revered for nine days in a row. On the tenth day, Kanya Puja is done and nine girls are called home.
Chaitra Navratri: What is it? The ninth day of Chaitra Navratri, which is observed in North India, is referred to as Ram Navami. Lord Ram's birthday is also observed on Ram Navami.
Gudi Padwa in Maharashtra and Ugadi in Andhra Pradesh mark the beginning of Chaitra Navratri. Gupt Navratri is the name given to Navratris that fall in the months of Magha and Ashadha. They are well-known because of this. During this Navratri, Tantra Sadhana is practiced and Kali is particularly worshipped. Sago, khichdi, singhare halwa, and rotis made with buckwheat flour are consumed during the Navratri fast.
