चूँकि जन्माष्टमी भगवान श्री कृष्ण के जन्मोत्सव का प्रतीक है, इसलिए इसे काफी धूमधाम से मनाया जाता है। जन्माष्टमी के दौरान भगवान कृष्ण के शिशु रूप लड्डू गोपाल का सम्मान किया जाता है। इस दिन लड्डू गोपाल का भव्य श्रृंगार किया जाता है। जन्माष्टमी के दौरान खीरे का विशेष महत्व होता है। इसके बिना जन्माष्टमी की पूजा अधूरी मानी जाती है। कृष्णजन्माष्टमी के दिन खीरे का भोग लगाने का विशेष महत्व माना जाता है।
खीरे काटने की विधि
जन्माष्टमी के दिन खीरे को तने से काटकर अलग किया जाता है। ऐसा माना जाता है कि खीरा वास्तव में इस दिन श्री कृष्ण के माता देवकी से अलग होने का प्रतीक है। इससे पता चलता है कि क्यों कई स्थानों पर जन्माष्टमी पर खीरे काटने को नल छेदन भी कहा जाता है। जिस प्रकार जन्म के समय गर्भनाल को हटाने से बच्चे गर्भाशय से अलग हो जाते हैं, उसी प्रकार श्री कृष्ण के जन्मोत्सव पर कान्हा को जन्म देने के लिए खीरे के डंठल को काटने की प्रथा है।
खीरे से कैसे बनते हैं बाल गोपाल? (जन्माष्टमी की पूजा विधि)
ऐसा माना जाता है कि रात्रि 12:00 बजे श्री कृष्ण का जन्म हुआ था। इस कारण जब आप जन्माष्टमी के मौके पर कान्हा की पूजा करें तो हल्के पत्तों और डंठल वाले खीरे का प्रयोग करें। कान्हा के प्रसव के लिए आधी रात को खीरे के डंठल को एक पैसे से काट लें। इसके बाद बाल गोपाल के आगमन के उपलक्ष्य में शंख बजाएं और फिर बांके बिहारी की विधिवत पूजा करें।
